Win 4 tickets for city ice rink!

THE ICE rink that dazzled and entertained Old Market Square revellers last Christmas is set to return - and you could be there on opening night!

We have a family ticket to give away, allowing you and three friends to be one of the first to take to the ice when the rink officially opens for this year’s festivities.

The winning quartet would need to take to the rink at 6.15pm on Wednesday November 19 - just in time for the grand switch on of the city’s Christmas lights taking place just ten minutes later.

You will then be free to skate your heart out until the session ends at 7.30pm.

The National Ice Centre’s Deputy Chief Executive, Martin Ingham, is expecting this year’s rink to be even more popular than last year.

He said: “We had over 60,000 skaters last year and we’re expecting that number to increase this Christmas.”

“We have made a few changes to the layout of the rink by reducing the infrastructure to only one marquee which opens out the viewing area on the Debenhams side of the Square. This means spectators will get a great view of what’s happening on the ice.”

To book tickets call 08444 124 639 or visit www.National-Ice-Centre.com

To enter for a chance of winning the family ticket, answer the following question:

The pair will be dancing their way into the city’s Trent FM Arena for four dates on Tuesday 27 and Wednesday 28 in January and Monday 9 and Tuesday 10 in February.

Hotly tipped to win, Cherie and Tom are racing ahead in this year’s TV series, receiving outstanding scores and comments from the judges. Previous Strictly Come Dancing celebrities Jill Halfpenny, Julian Clary, Gethin Jones and Kenny Logan will join them on the tour.

Last year, rugby star Kenny Logan was a hit with the viewers but waltzed out in fifth place and smooth mover Gethin Jones reached the semi-finals.

Kenny, clearly thrilled to be doing the Live Tour, said: ‘I never thought I'd make it as far as I did during my time on Strictly and now to be touring the country in the live show is another unexpected turn in my dancing career.”

“I'm used to a stadium full of rugby fans but I'm not sure how that will compare to the arenas on tour. I can't wait to find out.”

The 2009 tour will see the celebrities face their dance demons in the form of all four TV judges - Len Goodman, Arlene Phillips, Craig Revel Horwood and Bruno Tonioli – joining each show to voice their professional opinions on the dancing duos.

Journal Fiver: Mighty Boosh
oa9
IT must be fun living in a parallel universe. With three bizarre yet wonderful series behind them, the stars of The Mighty Boosh are hitting the road.

Cult comedy duo Noel Fielding and Julian Barratt let James Rampton in on the joke.

On what audiences can expect:

“Expect punks and yetis and monsters with elbow patches, in a psychedelic meteorite of music and mayhem. There’s at least 30 to 40 per cent music.”

On live comedy:

“Live comedy gives you a particular buzz. It’s so instant. After making television, you hunger for that immediate response. You can improvise as you’re going along, which is a real thrill too.”

On the success of the show:

“The only way I can measure it is by the people who come up to us in the street. It used to be just cool kids, but now chavs come up to me and say ‘that show is sick.’ It doesn’t sound it, but apparently that’s good! They don’t stab me, so that’s even better.”

On defying your parents:

“It’s one of those shows kids tend to like more than their parents. It’s like with music, if a parent says ‘that band is awful!’ their kids will immediately go out and buy all their albums”

On their alternative universe:

“The Boosh is pure escapism. Stuff like The Office is great, but we try to create a new world that people can get into and love. My favourite programmes like Monty Python, conjured up their own worlds. Once you’d entered them, you could go where you pleased. We aim to do the same thing.
